A friend who I was with at the game Sunday asked me if I took photos for my blog and I said, camera in hand, “Not really. It’s not really a football blog.” Famous last words, because then I realized I actually had a lot to say about the game that was too long for Twitter and not really Facebook appropriate.
When was the first time I swore this wasn’t a football blog? Manning Bowl 2.0 in September 2010. It has been a “footblog” more than I even remembered.
Random thoughts from Sunday:
- I will never not love watching Peyton play. Do I wish the Giants would have won? Of course. But I also realize how amazing the opportunity is to watch Peyton play live. I was lucky enough to travel to Indy in 2010 and had been looking forward to Manning Bowl in NY since then. When he went down with the neck surgery in 2011, I really feared I’d never have the opportunity to see him live again. I do not understand leaving the game early. It shouldn’t matter if you’re a Giants fan and the game is “over”, he’s a legend.
- I love Giants fans. I was wearing the “Sibling Rivalry” shirt (above) and while we were tailgating a guy came up to me and said “I don’t know you, but I love your shirt.” He proceeded to tell me that he had bought himself this same shirt in Indy and had shrink wrapped it, but then his wife had unwrapped it and worn it everyday for two years. He was on a mission to find the 2013 Manning Bowl shirts. I thought that was the end of it, but I had two more encounters with him including when he let me know he found the parking lot man with the Manning Bowl shirts, but they were all stained. And that he’d have bought me one if they weren’t stained. Classy.
- the new bag policy? Not that bad… but screening wasn’t any quicker. That said, just ordered a new bag from @BatsOnTees because I expect that MLB will eventually follow suit, and a tote wasn’t cutting it.
So… score sucked, but I had a fun day with friends. Hard to have a bad day at a football game. My game photos and photos from a friend.
